The Sahyadri College is a reputed premier institute in the Malnad area of Southern Karnataka. The College was established in the year 1940 by his highness King Jayachamarajendra Wadeyar, then Maharaja of Mysore, as an intermediate college. It was upgraded to Degree College in the year 1956 as Government First Grade College. Later on, enthralled by the picturesque of the Sahyadri hills in the region, Dr. K.V. Puttappa (Kuvempu) the first Jnana Peeta awardee and then Vice Chancellor of Mysore compelled the Government to rename the College as Sahyadri College. In the year 1984, it was bifurcated as Sahyadri Arts and Sahyadri Science Colleges. The college is having separate hostels for boys and girls and international stadium for the sports activities. It is spread over 81 acres of land which is situated on B.H. Road, just 2km from Shivamogga town.
The college, keeping the present business and industry needs in view and need of the hour, is offering various UG, PG and Add-on courses. The college has, to its credit, the experienced teaching faculty: 80% of them being Ph.D holders and 05 among them being university recognized research guides. Faculty have published over 100 research articles in national and international journals in the past few years and guided & guiding many students for their Ph.D. degree. Presently, major and minor research projects of UGC are being carried out in various departments.
The syllabi in all the subjects are updated from time to time to meet the economic and global demands of the public. The special lectures, seminars, conferences and workshops are being held in all the departments regularly to keep students and faculty in pace with the recent advances in commerce and management. To ensure overall round development of the students, the college is having three NSS units, one NCC unit, Rovers & Rangers unit, Red Cross units, Sports department and women cell. The Placement cell in cooperation with pathway provides the students communication skills, soft skills and personality development training etc
